IREAD-3 Overview – North Central Parke CSC

North Central Parke Community School Corporation administers the Indiana Reading Evaluation and Determination (IREAD-3) to evaluate foundational reading skills as required by Public Law 109. Based on Indiana Academic Standards, this assessment ensures students are proficient in reading before entering fourth grade.

Grade 2 Results:

●         Pass – Student passed and will not retake the test.

●         On Track – Student is likely to pass in grade 3.

●         Not on Track – Student will receive in-school remediation and must attend mandatory summer school.

Grade 3 Results:

●         Pass – Student passed and will not retake the test.

●         Did Not Pass – Student can retake the test before year-end. If still unsuccessful, they must attend summer school and retake the test at summer’s end.

Summer School:
Free for families, summer reading support is provided for students not meeting reading benchmarks. Instruction is based on the science of reading, an evidence-based approach proven to support literacy held at a NCP school.

Retention and Good Cause Exemptions (GCE):
By law, students not reading proficiently by the end of grade 3 may be retained. GCEs exempt students from retention if they meet any of the following:

●         Previously retained in grade 3

●         Have an IEP stating promotion is appropriate

●         EL student with <2 years of services and ILP team recommends promotion

●         Scored “Proficient” or above on grade 3 ILEARN Math

●         Received 2+ years of intensive reading support and were retained more than once in K–2
