Using sticks, rocks and other materials, students in Mrs. Melanie Miller’s World History and Civilization social studies class at Parke Heritage High School tried to start a fire without the use of matches or fire starters on Tuesday, August 12.
Keeping in mind the materials that ancient man might have available to them, the students researched what the best materials would be to use. The students used materials that they hoped would help them start a fire. Many tried rubbing sticks together, and used other pieces of wood as a base.
Prior to their attempt at making fire, the students spent time researching strategies to create a spark.
