three students holding their Trail of Tears projects

The Trail of Tears stands as one of the most emotional and pivotal events in American history. To honor this history and foster deep empathy, eighth-grade social studies students recently undertook a meaningful project: designing and creating their own memorials to commemorate the event.

The creativity of the students was on full display as they used various mediums to express the journey experience. Projects included illustrated diaries written from the perspective of travelers; dioramas visualizing the harsh landscapes endured; posters and fliers aimed at educating others, and three-dimensional art pieces showcasing emotional resilience.

On Monday, February 16, the classes visited the memorial gallery in the ELC Room. Students viewed their classmates' work, allowing them to experience diverse perspectives and impressions of this historical turning point. It was a powerful reminder of the importance of remembering and learning from our past.
